Other “Best Practice” Habits to follow

Foolowing sound priciples and adopting good habits cant be stressed enough if you want to maintain success.  I have covered in detail the steps required to set up a brand new website and this section just reinfources some common sense type suggestions to follow

Optimise each page for 1 keyword only

Have an internal link structure and ensure the deepest page is no more than 3 clicks away from any page within your web site

Think about the words users would type to find your pages, and make sure that your site actually includes those words within it.

Try to use text instead of images to display important names, content, or links. The Google crawler doesn’t recognize text contained in images.

You must use images for textual content, consider using the “ALT” attribute to include a few words of descriptive text.

Make sure that your <title> elements and ALT attributes are descriptive

and accurate.

Check for broken links and correct HTML. I have provided a free plug in to do this very easily.  Please run this tool once per month or so.

Don’t use underscores in Domain name URL’s, use dashes

Check your page load speed is acceptable

Make pages primarily for users, not for search engines.

Ensure you have a low bounce rate

Don’t place too many ads and never above the fold. Ensure the content/ad split is always in favour of the content but don’t put ANY ADS ON FOR FIRST 3 MONTHS

Don’t “pad out” your web site with low quality content hoping to be seen

as an authority site purely because of size.

Google will penalize you for Low quality content and impose a site wide penalty not a page only Penalty.
